Hello Students,
Please read an article from Scholastic News Online from either the National News section or the International News section. Try to pick a story written within the last year (just look at the date it was written).
Then, please write a short summary (about 5 sentences) telling me what the article was about. Don't forget to include what article you read in the topic sentence!
Here is an example:
Dear Mrs. Springston,
Today I read First Flute Found, which tells about a 35,000 year old flute! The 8.5 inch instrument was dug up by archaeologists in June of 2009. It has 5 holes, was made from a vulture bone, and is not that much different from a modern day flute. Unfortunately, it was too fragile to play a song on. This is the oldest instrument ever found and is just another piece of evidence from the humans that lived long ago.
Thanks,
Jane
I need your best work today, students!
Thanks,
Mrs. Springston

Dear Mrs.Springston,
I just read Mummy Murder Mystery and it was about King Tut! First, King Tut was only nine when he was the ruler. He was also nine when he became a pharaoh. They say that his adviser named Ay killed King Tut because he wanted the throne for himself. King Tut had a solid gold tomb, piles of jewelry, and a gold mask. Most people say that King Tut died by a broken leg and his broken leg got infected.

Dear Mrs.S,
I just read "Frog Island". Many animales live in Madagascar. It is full of many different animals. Researchers found out that there is a lot more wildlife on the island as they thought. Last, week the Spanish Scientific group discovered that there was 129 to 221 new frog species in the island of Madagascar. Madagascar is the fourth biggest island in the whole wide world. Almost 80 percent of animales live there. There are over hundreds of different frogs.

Dear Mrs. Springston,
The article we read is called Dophins and Sperm Whales. It is about dolphins who get killed when an oil spiled happens. Wild life experts said there were 5,000 bottlenose dolphins are swimming along the the Louisiana and the Mississippi coast. Dolphins need to go up for air when they do that they might swallow the oil and die.Whales are mammals too, they also have to go up to the surface to to get air. When they do that the dolphins and whales could get eyes and skin infection by the sticky oil and toxic.
Thanks,
Tri
